Financial Assistance

When neighbors walk in the door at Sharing House, they are greeted by friendly faces, laughter, and a compassionate group of volunteers and staff ready to offer resources and support. An environment of hospitality and hope can turn even the most challenging day around.

As the largest county resource for low-income residents in Transylvania County, Sharing House works collaboratively with other agencies to prevent evictions and keep neighbors in their homes.

Sharing House offers help with power, water, gas, heating oil, firewood, and rent costs. Residents can call 828-884-2866 to check eligibility and to schedule an appointment.

SHOWERS

Shower rooms are available during regular business hours (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.) On Tuesdays, we remain open for services until 6 p.m. We provide shampoo, conditioner, soap, clean towels, and other personal items.

CLOTHING

Each household is eligible to select up to 20 in-season clothing items once a week. What we do not display in our clothing room is recycled by a Greenville-based company so that no donations end up in a landfill.

HOUSEHOLD

We offer household items such as towels, blankets, utensils, dishes, pots and pans once every three months. Camping equipment is also available.

Seasonal Solutions

BACK TO SCHOOL

Children who experience housing instability are more likely to struggle in school and to suffer from mental health challenges than their securely housed peers. And for many parents, the required list of classroom items needed to enroll their child into school is cost-prohibitive, particularly for multi-children households. The cost to supply one student averages around $120.

Students are able to pick their own supplies, including notebooks, crayons, backpacks, highlighters, calculators, and more.

Through the generosity of donors and partners, Sharing House is also able to offer new shoes and socks to local youth.

CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS

Many of us remember the anticipation of Christmas morning, sneaking downstairs in the dark to peek into our stockings and scope out the boxes under the tree. While joyous for some, the holidays can be a very stressful time for families struggling to make ends meet.

For 33 years, Sharing House has helped parents create magic for their children through Christmas Blessings. Children and youth receive toys, games, and stocking stuffers.
